Matri-Pitri Poojan
PREFACE
India is a land of rishis, munis and incarnations of God. Earlier the people greeted each other saying ‘Rama-Rama’ on meeting. There is a wonderful meaning hidden behind saying ‘Rama’ twice. It implies that the same Rama Consciousness- the Supreme Self is present in the person in front of me and me. Salutations to Him. Such a divine feeling is termed “love”. Love is naturally supposed to be innocent, guileless, selfless and desireless. This way, the people would get reminded of God even on meeting one another. But today, let alone such pious thoughts, people have started considering the carnal ‘attraction’ that causes one’s downfall as ‘love’.
On 14th February, in western countries the youngsters celebrate Valentine’s Day by giving Valentine’s Day cards, flowers etc. to each other. The main reason behind the decadence in the countries which have travelled down the road from the traditional sexual values is celebration of such ‘Valentine’s Days’ which encourage people to lead immoral life. It has caused the moral degradation of these countries. The burning problems created by this are so severe that US Government spent millions of dollars for teenage abstinence campaigns in schools. Since 1996 more than US$1 billion in federal and state funds has been spent on ‘abstinence only’ campaigns in America’s schools (till the end of Bush administration). But they are not getting much success. Now this evil tradition is setting foot in India also. In order to preserve our traditional sexual values we should boycott such ‘Valentine’s Days’. In this context to counter the attack of westernization, world revered Sant Sri Asharamji Bapu has taken a unique initiative- ‘Matri-pitri poojan diwas’ (Parents’ Worship Day).
